8 diy storage ideas for kids’ rooms and nurseries

storage ideas, kids room, nursery, woodThe best kinds of DIY projects are the ones that don’t look handmade. They’re the ones that blend in so seamlessly and look so natural that you’d think they were purchased from a store. Everything in this roundup is inspired by wood and simple in design, which is generally what I’ve been gravitating towards for my own nursery decor. Take a look around and see if there’s anything here that might inspire your decor or next DIY project.  Read More

garden theme party inspiration

Here are a few of the simple ideas that I used for inspiration for my gender neutral garden theme baby shower. I wanted to create a comfortable and carefree vibe that felt fresh and modern. Instead of the usual blush pinks and baby blues, I was inspired to switch it up. I paired lush green garlands and florals with natural materials like birch wood table numbers and a DIY raw wood photo collage board for our baby photos. A mix of eucalyptus, baby’s breath, lamb’s ear, ferns and white daisies were loosely arranged in modern black vases. Small touches included handmade name cards and a floral crown for me, the mom-to-be. Assorted succulents and white candles were scattered throughout. The venue was a beautiful blank space with tons of natural light, and guests took home a small succulent as a favor. I hope you are feeling inspired to recreate some of these ideas for own your baby shower or better yet backyard garden party or summer soiree! I’m back today with an update on and inspiration for the nursery! We’ve had some major changes in this room in the last few months. We pulled up the old hardwood floors, installed carpet, replaced old baseboards and trim, installed a new window and painted the walls a creamy, neutral white called Frost by Behr. We were originally planning on painting this room a soft minty green but made a swap at the last minute. We’ve gotten some of the other big to-do’s taken care of too – purchased the dresser and changing table, put together the crib, ordered blackout shades and installed a closet organizer. It’s pretty close to being done! I can’t wait to show you the finished product in a month or so.

As far as decor, I love a mix of white, wood, grey and blue as you can see in these photos. I knew that would be the base for the room as well as a lot of natural materials in their raw state (unfinished wood shelving and handwoven baskets). I wanted the room to flow and match the rest of the house which was my main goal. From there, I searched for mint green/teal accents to make the room more gender neutral. I wanted items that would work with future babies too, regardless of their sex. We also spent a lot of time debating the whole rocker verse glider thing. Hey moms, what’s your preference?nursery, art, prints, gender neutral, inspirationFor months I’ve been on the lookout for beautiful prints that can add some bright pops of color and inspiration to our little one’s nursery. I’m sticking with a primarily light and white palette in the room but I want to bring in some pops of color and a bit of boho with the artwork and accessories. Here are a few of my favorites – I really can’t stop going back to Olivia Raufman’s Goodnight World print and Britt Bass’ Honey Calcite print! I may need to paint a few things as well!

gender neutral garden theme baby shower

baby shower, floral, garden party, gender neutral, modern bohemianLast weekend the women in my family hosted a sweet soiree to celebrate baby Zitzer. From the very beginning, starting with the gorgeous invitation by Mikel Clair Hardin for Minted, everything was perfect. It was held at the beautiful Reel Club – one of our favorite nearby restaurants. The feeling of the shower was light and bright with lots of whites, natural wood and lush greenery. Perfect for a party in the middle of the summer.  Read More

Last October we closed on our new home. We moved in in December, and since then we’ve been going 100 miles an hour working on house projects. First up was the hall bathroom, which we were able to renovate right away. Here are a few dreamy bathrooms that emulate the look I was going for on the remodel. I’d say almost anything is an improvement to what we had going on here.

I love a clean, white bathroom. I guess you could say simple is my style – white walls mixed with dark tile, subtle touches of grey and natural wood and maybe some industrial-looking light fixtures. As you can see I’m a big fan of white subway tile. Some other things that I’m loving in these rooms are the clean lines, the hex floors and those woven baskets. I decided to stick with a monochromatic color palette which allowed me to play with different patterns and textures and add in pops of color with the accessories. Below is a little roundup of some of the new fixtures and pieces we purchased for the bathroom –

I combined sleek new pieces, like the black faucets and towel rack, with timeless finishes like subway tile for the shower walls and long, slender rectangular tiles for the floors. I love the classic feel of glass jars for showcasing more visually appealing bits, and the white lacquer tray is perfect for keeping everything tidy on the countertop. Finally, these fluffy seafoam green bath towels are sure to be a guest pleaser. I like this overall look because it’s neutral yet playful and still brings in a bit of color.
