8 diy storage ideas for kids’ rooms and nurseries

storage ideas, kids room, nursery, woodThe best kinds of DIY projects are the ones that don’t look handmade. They’re the ones that blend in so seamlessly and look so natural that you’d think they were purchased from a store. Everything in this roundup is inspired by wood and simple in design, which is generally what I’ve been gravitating towards for my own nursery decor. Take a look around and see if there’s anything here that might inspire your decor or next DIY project.  Read More

garden theme party inspiration

baby shower, inspiration, floral, garden party, gender neutral, modern bohemian

Here are a few of the simple ideas that I used for inspiration for my gender neutral garden theme baby shower. I wanted to create a comfortable and carefree vibe that felt fresh and modern. Instead of the usual blush pinks and baby blues, I was inspired to switch it up. I paired lush green garlands and florals with natural materials like birch wood table numbers and a DIY raw wood photo collage board for our baby photos. A mix of eucalyptus, baby’s breath, lamb’s ear, ferns and white daisies were loosely arranged in modern black vases. Small touches included handmade name cards and a floral crown for me, the mom-to-be. Assorted succulents and white candles were scattered throughout. The venue was a beautiful blank space with tons of natural light, and guests took home a small succulent as a favor. I hope you are feeling inspired to recreate some of these ideas for own your baby shower or better yet backyard garden party or summer soiree! gender neutral garden theme baby shower

baby shower, floral, garden party, gender neutral, modern bohemianLast weekend the women in my family hosted a sweet soiree to celebrate baby Zitzer. From the very beginning, starting with the gorgeous invitation by Mikel Clair Hardin for Minted, everything was perfect. It was held at the beautiful Reel Club – one of our favorite nearby restaurants. The feeling of the shower was light and bright with lots of whites, natural wood and lush greenery. Perfect for a party in the middle of the summer.  Read More

snapshots from south haven

south haven, michigan, travel, beach, natureWalks on the beach, wandering around town, shopping, good food and lots of laughs made for a pretty wonderful weekend in South Haven for this mama-to-be. Our bungalow, which I found on VRBO, was just a few blocks from the beach and had this lovely back patio where we spent Saturday night warming our buns and chatting around the fire. We had our fill of small plates at Taste and dined on delicious Italian food at Maria’s. South Haven is about two and a half hours north of Chicago which makes for a great weekend getaway. We had the best time enjoying the small town pace. I love living in the city, but I also crave these quiet escapes.

I came home with pockets full of driftwood. As I hunted the beach, I knew exactly what I was going to make with it. I was inspired by these two things – first I saw this on City Farmhouse’s front porch and then I fell in love with this mobile that Miles of Light made. I haven’t decided where I’m going to hang my mobile yet. That’s always the fun part – deciding where it’s new home will be. I think a pop of color will be nice so I’ll either paint some of the wood or add some colorful pieces of beach glass. What do you think?

setting a fall table + entertaining tips

Setting the table ranks right up there as one of my favorite holiday activities. This year I wanted to create a comfortable and carefree vibe that felt fresh and modern yet had enough fall tones and autumnal motifs to make it season appropriate. Instead of the usual warm reds, oranges, tans and taupes, I was inspired to switch it up with plum purple and yellow. I also paired natural materials like wooden bowls and trays with shiny elements like polished silverware and mercury glass votives. organic, modern, holiday table, fall, autumn, thanksgiving, decor, tablescape, dinner partyForget the fancy centerpiece and try a fresh floral garland instead. It feels festive and fun, and it will last throughout the holiday season. Nestle smaller floral arrangements, white pillar candles and wooden candle holders with white tapers around the garland. Scatter acorns to fill in the gaps. Incorporate seasonal fruit or vegetables when possible. This time of year I love persimmons. They add an outdoor vibe and a pop of color.  Read More
