Last October we closed on our new home. We moved in in December, and since then we’ve been going 100 miles an hour working on house projects. First up was the hall bathroom, which we were able to renovate right away. Here are a few dreamy bathrooms that emulate the look I was going for on the remodel. I’d say almost anything is an improvement to what we had going on here.

I love a clean, white bathroom. I guess you could say simple is my style – white walls mixed with dark tile, subtle touches of grey and natural wood and maybe some industrial-looking light fixtures. As you can see I’m a big fan of white subway tile. Some other things that I’m loving in these rooms are the clean lines, the hex floors and those woven baskets. I decided to stick with a monochromatic color palette which allowed me to play with different patterns and textures and add in pops of color with the accessories. Below is a little roundup of some of the new fixtures and pieces we purchased for the bathroom –

I combined sleek new pieces, like the black faucets and towel rack, with timeless finishes like subway tile for the shower walls and long, slender rectangular tiles for the floors. I love the classic feel of glass jars for showcasing more visually appealing bits, and the white lacquer tray is perfect for keeping everything tidy on the countertop. Finally, these fluffy seafoam green bath towels are sure to be a guest pleaser. I like this overall look because it’s neutral yet playful and still brings in a bit of color.

So, here we go again. It’s been about six months since we purchased our current home. It needs a little bit of TLC and a lot of updates – it was originally built in 1970. Some could call it a fixer upper, but really everything is functional and it’s in a great neighborhood, it just needs a little polishing.

Marc and I have spent a lot of time over the past couple of years talking about what we really want in a home and found that we were really looking for the following things – 1. a home in a safe neighborhood with great schools 2. a home that was close to town/the train for commuting to work 3. a home that we could put our own stamp on. We’ve learned that it’s more rewarding to renovate a space than to move into someone else’s pride and joy. We thought we found that in our previous home but then this house came on the market and it caught our eye. I know that anything can be changed within a house (this house is now our third home that we’ve done renovations) but that you cannot change its location, and the location of this house is unbeatable.

So I’ve put together a little photo tour of the home. The next time you see these rooms they will look very different. Up first, a peak at the empty rooms and then on to the list of projects! Read More

neutrals

etsy, art, design, interiors, home decor, ceramics, poster, fashionWow, it’s been months since my last post! The first half of the year has been a whirlwind. Between our trip to the Dominican Republic and our California road trip, preparing for art fair season and starting phase 2 of our home renovation, I am exhausted. The upside is now I have a bunch of updates that I’ll be sharing with you over the next few weeks. So stay tuned! For now, I thought I would share some items I currently have my eye on. I have to have that cactus poster!

We’ve lived in our house for eight months now. Eight months! I’m tired of making excuses for our house not looking the way I want it to (at least the rooms that aren’t being renovated) so my goal this month is to get this place looking more finished. I stumbled upon the Cloth & Goods website recently and I quickly started adding several of their items to my wishlist. I tend to gravitate toward neutrals with pops of navy blue here and there, mostly in art and accessories. Here are a few favorites –

interior inspiration | studio

artist, studio, den, office, interior design, inspirationIf you’ve been following along on our home renovation, you know that we’ve done (and are still doing) a lot to make the space our own. I am still not quite settled into my new studio (although it is doing much better than the rest of the house right now). I had a few ideas about the feeling I wanted to achieve in this space – white walls, lots of natural light, plenty of storage and since this is KZ headquarters I wanted to make sure to get a little color in there too. These photos are roughly what I have in mind – artist, studio, den, office, interior design, inspirationMy dream has always been to do more than just art, but also to host events, collaborate with other creatives, set up photo sessions and create without limitations. This space opens the doors to many of those things. Still left to do in the studio – replace the light fixture, install shelving, hang bulletin/mood board and purchase/hang curtains.
