artist, studio, den, office, interior design, inspirationIf you’ve been following along on our home renovation, you know that we’ve done (and are still doing) a lot to make the space our own. I am still not quite settled into my new studio (although it is doing much better than the rest of the house right now). I had a few ideas about the feeling I wanted to achieve in this space – white walls, lots of natural light, plenty of storage and since this is KZ headquarters I wanted to make sure to get a little color in there too. These photos are roughly what I have in mind – artist, studio, den, office, interior design, inspirationMy dream has always been to do more than just art, but also to host events, collaborate with other creatives, set up photo sessions and create without limitations. This space opens the doors to many of those things. Still left to do in the studio – replace the light fixture, install shelving, hang bulletin/mood board and purchase/hang curtains. interior inspiration | design plans

We’ve been in our new house for about a month now. We’ve been working like crazy but there are still boxes everywhere and it needs a lot more love. I had a few ideas about the feeling I wanted to achieve for the space before we moved in – a calming color palette, white walls, just a really laid back vibe that looks really comfortable – and lately I’ve been looking for interior inspiration nonstop. These photos are roughly what I have in mind for the entry, formal living and dining room. Since the rooms are open to each other I want to utilize the same neutral palette in both spaces – full of whites, woods, natural materials adding pops of color with art and accessories.interior color palette | palettes and passports blogI have an obsession with white right now so I’m trying to be aware of that and not go too overboard. My method for choosing the paint was pretty simple. I picked out a few different swatches and narrowed it down to three different samples. After testing them out on the walls, we decided on Super White in a matte finish by Sherwin Williams. I may be bringing in some other colors down the road and maybe wallpaper, but for now I’m loving the look of a clean, blank slate. We’ve already invested in a few new pieces of furniture like a dining room table but I don’t intend to completely fill the rooms right away. I think a home feels best when accumulated over time with items that remind me of the places I’ve been and the people I love. Plus we enjoy using our hands so we’d like to build or DIY a few pieces of furniture for our space too. Moving into a new home takes a lot of time, work, patience and money!interior color palette | palettes and passports blog

we bought a house part 1

we bought a house part 1 | palettes and passports blogToday I’m happy to share that we finally bought a house! We started house hunting last fall and the process was slow at first. We found a home we really liked in our desired neighborhood and made an offer, but our offer was ignored and a few weeks later the sellers accepted a different one. It was discouraging, but we were familiar with how tumultuous the home buying process could be and were committed to staying positive. The winter dragged on and for a while it seemed like we might not find anything. At the beginning of March a house came on the market that we were really excited about. We made an offer but then had to withdraw it due to strict zoning restrictions that would not meet our needs. Once again we were bummed but we knew in our hearts that we had to let this one go. The search continued. A few weeks later another house came on the market that was in our ideal location. We made an offer and after some negotiating struck a deal! It’s a beautiful three bedroom, two and a half bath 1900 square foot home. It has great bones, architectural details, light, flow and space, but naturally there is still a lot I want to do to it so hopefully you’ll indulge me as I post about our new home and the projects we have in store for it. Stay tuned for the whole house tour this week!
