crunch time

kate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogThis week is major crunch time – it’s going to be hectic. I’m getting everything organized and getting as many things done as possible before the big art fair this weekend. During the evenings and late nights I am prepping and painting – I figure I can sleep when art fair season is over in a few weeks.

I’m so thankful for Marc. He does so much and I don’t know where I would be without him. I don’t know if you realize that we do everything – even stamping my name on the artwork and putting sawtooth hangers on the backs of canvases.

I hope that some of you can come to the fest (Bucktown Arts Fest in Chicago). I will have new artwork for sale – I’m really excited about my newest painting and prints – and for anyone who can’t come I will have new items listed online soon.

new designs

kate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogI just finished redesigning the state silhouette paintings. I am using smaller canvases, smaller type and blocks of color instead of stripes. Marc told me he liked the old version and seemed disappointed with the change. I told him coming up with different designs is just part of the process. I think it is just as much for you as it is for me because it helps me keep the momentum going. I was up late last night working on a new painting. I didn’t mean to stay up that late but I was in a groove and didn’t want to stop. I hope to finish the painting today and will try to show it to you soon.

I also wanted to let you know that “Love You So” paintings are now listed in the shop.

relax

kansas city | palettes and passports blog kansas city | palettes and passports blogWhen I was in Kansas City last week I was stressing about everything that had to be done and don’t get me wrong it was nice to take a break, breaks are good and rejuvenating, but I’m happy to be back in the studio this week. My new approach is whatever gets done gets done and not to worry about the rest.

kate zitzer studio | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer studio | palettes and passports blogkate zitzer art | palettes and passports blogThis painting (also here) is always a big hit at art fairs – I hang it on the back wall of the booth and I think the big type and bold colors really catch people’s attention. I also think the size of it – 36×48 – intimidates people so I thought I would make a few smaller ones too. They are 12×16 inches and I did a teal one and a purple one. They turned out beautifully and are perfect for hanging in the living room or a bedroom. I will have them for sale at the Bucktown Arts Fest on August 24th and 25th. I may have other colors in the near future – I hope you love them too!

a note from kansas city + new art

kz by kate zitzer original artwork | palettes and passports blog kz by kate zitzer original artwork | palettes and passports blogSo I’m in Kansas City all week for my full time job. I’m sort of bummed because I was just starting to get caught up and most of my art gets done in the evenings after I get home from work. The thought of nothing being done this week kind of freaks me out because the Bucktown Arts Fest is coming up in a few weeks and I need more time. But here I am so I’m going to take advantage of these few days off from painting to rest, relax in the hotel and explore the city when I can. Any tips for places to see, eat, shop or anything at all in KC?

I had a chance to do a few new Adventure Begins and Love You So paintings and I will be listing them in the shop next week. I’ve been creating multiples since I have two back to back fairs coming up and I won’t have much time in between to create new art. I also created a new stencil for the Chicago Sears paintings and I really like how they turned out. I will try to show you more of what I’m up to over the next few weeks.

a fourth celebration

a holiday weekend | palettes and passports bloga holiday weekend | palettes and passports bloga holiday weekend | palettes and passports blog…a few snaps from our July 4th holiday weekend. We ended up spending most of it with family outdoors under the hot summer sun, taking dips in the cool lake water and exploring the city. These summer days have been treating us just right.

The studio is in full swing. I’ve been busy packing up and sending out orders and building up inventory for upcoming shows. I hope to have new things to show you very soon.
