We spent the weekend at the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts – thanks to all of you who stopped by and made a purchase at my booth. Saturday was a very successful day and I sold out of Love You So paintings and 11×14 Chicago Loop prints. Sunday could have been busier – it was cold and raining. I appreciate everyone who braved the weather and came out to the fest. I did want to show you my new design for the Home painting or as my mom refers to it “the roofs” – I was happy it sold on Saturday.

I had such a great season this year and my success is owed to everyone who came by to show their support. I am so touched and overwhelmed so thank you! It was really nice to have so many friends and family visit us too and keep us company during the weekends. There is no time for rest just yet – I have emails to catch up on, errands to run and a studio to clean up. I also have to start getting ready for the ARTober sale in a few weeks.

If I missed you at the fair, please feel free to order from my Esty shop, and I am available for local pick up so just email me.

chicago’s lakeview east festival of the arts this weekend

artist kate zitzer at chicago's lakeview east festival of the arts | palettes and passports blogThis Saturday and Sunday I’m doing the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts. The last two years have been so much fun I just had to return. So if you’re around I hope you can come by – I will be at BOOTH 144 (same spot as last year). I’m working hard to create some more work which I will show you here or here soon.

I have a lot of inventory this year, so excited. I plan on bringing 40+ paintings and a limited number of prints. Lakeview was one of my very first art fairs, and I only brought 17 paintings – I don’t know what I was thinking! I sold 11 the first day and had to stay up all night making more. I’ve learned so much these last four years, and I was thinking after art fair season is over that I would put together a post with some tips. What do you think?

The Festival takes place Saturday, September 14th from 10-6 and Sunday, September 15th from 10-5 along Broadway between Belmont and Hawthorne. You can find all the details here. Hope to see you there!

lakeview fest countdown

happy hour by artist kate zitzer | palettes and passports blogpops by artist kate zitzer | palettes and passports blogpops by artist kate zitzer | palettes and passports blogHappy Friday! I’m sure this weekend will go by quickly while I’m getting ready for the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts next Saturday and Sunday. The week leading up to the fair is always hectic, but I’m trying not to sweat the small stuff. I thought I would begin my countdown to the fest by showing you a closer look at some of my newest paintings – Happy Hour and Pops.

Next weekend at the show I will also have – Chicago inspired art, Beachside (painting and prints – I’m considering changing the design so I’d really like to see these go), abstract paintings in a variety of sizes, nursery art and ofcourse Adventure Begins.

I plan on going out this weekend to get a few things, one being frames and packaging materials – I am thinking about going with a wholesale company and getting them in bigger quantities to save money and time on restocking. Any suggestions?

bucktown arts fest recap

kate zitzer booth bucktown arts fest | palettes and passports kate zitzer booth bucktown arts fest | palettes and passportskate zitzer booth bucktown arts fest | palettes and passportsIt sure was a hot one in Chicago this weekend! Thanks to everyone who came by the Bucktown Arts Fest and to all of you that made a purchase at my booth.

For the first time I made a plan for the booth set up – in the past we would have an idea of how it should be and how long it would take but then it wouldn’t go as planned and we would end up rushing. At Wells Street I had new sides so it took longer to figure out how to hang the paintings and we had to hurry and then some of them were crooked. My friends said it looked fine but I didn’t agree and I went early the second day to fix them. It took a little more time to come up with a plan but it was well worth the effort and we had plenty of time to get settled before the fest began.

It was great to see the Love You So paintings go so quickly on Saturday – I had to make more for Sunday. The other item that was a big hit was Adventure Begins. I am also happy to report that two of my favorite paintings Home and Happy Hour sold. Now it’s time to prep and paint for the next fair – Lakeview East Festival of the Arts is in three weeks!

I hope you enjoyed the fest just as much as we did. There were some long, hot, hard working days, but it really was worth it. Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and for all the kind words about my art!

I’ve got a lot to do now. I’ve been busy this week getting organized and running errands before we head to the lake for the long weekend!

chicago’s bucktown arts fest this weekend

bucktown arts fest this weekend | palettes and passports blogIf you live near Chicago, come down to Senior Citizens Memorial Park (2300 N Oakley/2300 W Lyndale) for the Bucktown Arts Fest this weekend. I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday, from 11-7 each day, at booth 24 selling all sorts of original artwork, a limited number of high quality prints plus a few one of a kind paintings!

I’m really excited about this one! Celebrating its 28th year, the Bucktown Arts Fest has grown to become a neighborhood tradition and one of Chicago’s premier arts festivals showcasing close to 200 participating artists, plus countless musicians, dancers, poets and performers.

We’ve been busy with show prep which means lots of painting, printing and packaging over here. The rest of the week I will be taking stock/organizing my artwork and Marc will be working on my booth setup.

Here’s a full list of all the artists who will be setting up shop at the fest this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing illustrations by Laura George, Emmy Star Brown’s window art, Tracey Capone’s photography, Brittany Cortina’s artwork, Susan Littman’s photography, Kristen Neveu’s abstract paintings and Paper Parasol’s letterpress goods. Come pay us a visit if you can!
